- Conversation history: All text messages you send to and receive from Harlan.
- Photos: Images you send via MMS (e.g., photos of your pet).
- Preferences: Your timezone, quiet hours, and proactive messaging preferences.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data: Message frequency, features used, and interaction patterns.
- Billing data: Subscription status and payment history (payment details are handled by Stripe and are not stored on our servers).
- Website analytics: When you visit heyharlan.com, we use FullStory to collect browsing data including pages visited, clicks, scrolling behavior, and session duration. FullStory may set cookies on your browser to enable this.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide the Service: Process your messages, generate AI responses, track domain data, and send proactive reminders.
- Improve the Service: Understand usage patterns and improve AI response quality.
- Manage billing: Process subscriptions and send payment-related communications.
- Send administrative messages: Trial reminders, service updates, and compliance messages (STOP/HELP confirmations).
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising or marketing to third parties.
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate Harlan. Each has access to specific data as necessary to provide their service:

5. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on servers hosted by DigitalOcean in the United States. We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information, including:
- Encrypted database connections (TLS/SSL)
- Encrypted data in transit for all API communications
- Access controls limiting who can access production data
- Webhook signature verification for Telnyx and Stripe
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Data Retention
- Active accounts: We retain your data for as long as your account is active.
- After cancellation: We retain your data for 90 days after your subscription ends, then permanently delete it.
- Conversation history: Stored for the duration of your account to provide context-aware responses.
- Media (photos): Stored for the duration of your account.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data: Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
- Delete your data: Request deletion of your account and all associated data.
- Opt out of SMS: Reply STOP to any Harlan message to stop receiving texts and cancel your subscription.
- Update your preferences: Change your timezone, quiet hours, and proactive messaging settings through the web app at app.heyharlan.com.

8. Children's Privacy
The Service is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via SMS or through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
